We have had summer classes for the past 30 years. We will probably
have summer classes this year. Summer classes are not guaranteed.
Summer classes are five weeks long. July to early August, classes
are three hours long.
Many people take a English 10 or 11 or 12 in the summer just for
practice. Then they retake it in September (nine weeks)

Process writing- teaching, teach how to do something, explain
how to do something, being a teacher
e.g. recipe- how to cook some dish- pancake, muffins, baking,
pizza, pho, bahn mi, kabob, dosa,

break the process down into many steps (6,7,8 steps)
First Second Next Then
For homework: Please put together a short paragraph explaining
how to make a dish. Tomorrow, we can read them out loud in class.
Please, write your own sentences. Don’t just copy from a
website.
Step 1- Choose a dish that you want to teach us.
Step 2- Break down the steps of how to do it.
Finish for homework.
Transitional Terms
for Process Paragraphs
A process paragraph teaches. A process paragraph can teach you how to do
something, or it can teach you how something works. For example, a process paragraph can teach
you how to change a light bulb. Also, a
process paragraph can teach you how a light bulb works.
Process writing should be organized
chronologically, which means in order of time.
Your paragraph should take your reader step by step though the process
of whatever topic you are writing about.
Use time-order transition words and phrases to make the process clear to
your reader. Many of the transition
words and phrases you used for narrative paragraphs can be used for process paragraphs. Refer to your handout “Transitional Terms for
Narrative Paragraphs” which I gave you a few weeks ago.
Also, you can transition words and phrases
to show causation which means cause and effect.
You can use a word like because ,
for example, to show how one event causes another event to happen.
For example: The
light bulb lights up because the electricity heats up the filament.
Below are many transition words and
phrases that you can use to show chronological order and causation:
as
before
next
during
later
finally
meanwhile
then
when
whenever
while
immediately
again
further
finally
never
after
earlier
always
soon
sometimes
in
the meantime
afterwards
now
until
now
following
once
at
length
simultaneously
so
far
this
time
subsequently
because
since
on
account of
for
that reason
therefore
consequently
accordingly
thus
hence
as
a result
in
order that
so
to that end
for
this purpose
