Verb tense review

-Simple past – one event in the past, finished

Dora watched a movie last night.

We went for a walk yesterday.

Junko studied karate when she was a kid.

Mai lived in China until 2015.

I went shopping last week.

The kids played soccer two days ago.

 

-Present perfect- started in the past, continues until now

I have worked at the store since 2019.

She has worked as a CEO since 2016.

You have lived here for 10 years.

 

Practice:

Ex. I bought a new laptop yesterday. simple past ‘yesterday’

1. I went to Australia three months ago. simple past ‘ago’

2. We walked around our negihboirhood last weekend. simple past “last weekend” “last night”   “last year”   “last Saturday”

3. I wrote my report. I have written my report.

4. sold   simple past “two weeks ago” “ten years ago” “five minutes ago”

5. has not given   present perfect “still”

‘still’ = now

I still have not decided what I’m going to do with my old car.

6. did not drive  simple past “last Monday”

7. He has never studied another language. present perfect “never”

Mei has never gone to Sri Lanka. Julie has never visited her uncle.

Dave has never forgotten his childhood friend, Paul.

Have you ever gone hiking in North Van? present perfect

I went hiking in the Philippines a lot, but I have never gone hiking in Canada.
