EF2/3 Parts of Speech

Verbs -action words, states of being (are, is)

actions- run, walk, jump, watch, dance
state of being - are/is "I am tired today."


Adjectives - describe nouns
beautiful, ugly, cold, warm, heavy, light, big, small, wonderful, delicious, strange

A cold day

Adverbs - describe verbs
usually "ly" words

quickly, slowly, carefully, always, well

She speaks French very well.

unsafely, dangerously

He drives his car dangerously.

Pronouns

I, you, it, he,she, we, they,

Prepositions - short words, show place or directions

on, in, over, at, to, for, beneath, below, under, up, down, above, between, beside, behind
across from

***Prepositions are VERY important in English.***
