EF2/3 Modals

modal - a kind of verb form
auxiliary- extra, AUX

one-word modals
can, could, may, might, must, should, will

two-word modals
had better, have to, ought to, used to

three-word modals
be able to, be going to, be supposed to, have got to


one-word modals
can
She can speak French.
He can't go to the movie tonight.
Can I borrow a pencil?

could
I could help you if you want.
He could fix your computer.

may
She may be late tomorrow.
May I borrow a pencil?

might
She might go to the party tomorrow.
She might not go to the party tomorrow.
Joe might go to Salt Spring Island for the weekend.

must
You must look both ways before you cross the street.
You must obey the traffic rules if you drive a car.
You must be tired!
You must be so happy!
You must be kidding/joking.
It must have been a shock to you.

should
You should go to the doctor.
You should get up, or you're going to be late for school.

will
She will become a doctor.
He will mow the lawn this Saturday.
I'll see you tomorrow.

would
Would you like a coffee?

Would you like a lift to work?
