EF2/3 sentence combining


French Fries
White French fries are loaded into a wire basket.
French fries which are white are loaded into a basket which is made of wire.

Then they are lowered slowly into oil.

Their hot bath crackles and foams.
Their bath is hot, so it crackles and foams.

The potatoes are thinly-sliced and release a puff which is steam.
The potatoes are thinly-sliced and release a puff of steam.
The thinly-sliced potatoes release a puff of steam.
A puff of steam is released from the thinly-sliced potatoes. (passive voice)
They come out crispy brown and streaked with oil.
They come out crispy brown; also, they come out streaked with oil.

The KISS principle- Keep it simple, silly.

Coffee
1.    He sips at his coffee cup which is chipped along the rim. (complex sent- adjective clause)
He sips at his coffee cup, and the cup is chipped along the rim. (compound sentence)

2.    The taste is bitter, acidic and faintly soapy.
The bitter and acidic taste is faintly soapy.

3.    *There is a brown film on the inside of his cup.
On the inside of his cup is a film which is brown.

4.    He takes extra care so that he doesn’t spill any on his clothes.

5.    He is afraid that it might eat holes in the material.
