Focus on the three simple tenses:

-simple present

-simple past

-simple future

             

 

*SIMPLE PRESENT- use this all the time, very important 

-habitual action- habitual(adj) habit(noun)

-something you do normally, everyday, usual activity, routine

-good habit, bad habit

 

I drink coffee every day. not right now, routine, habit

I wake up at 7am (everyday).

She goes to bed at midnight.

I eat rice everyday. Rice is a staple.

VOCAB staple- basic food that you eat everyday

Bread is staple in Iran.

She drinks coffee.

I take a shower every Tuesday.

She drinks green tea in the morning.

Simple Present Tense in the Negative

She drinks coffee. She doesn’t drink coffee. She does not drink coffee.

Let’s look at these 100 verbs.

Which ones do you know? Which ones do you kind of know? Which one are new?

 

 

 

Use these verbs to write some (5? 10?) practice sentences. Many of the verbs you will know; many will be new.

52. hold- have in your hand

She holds her phone in her left hand.

We hold a meeting every Tuesday afternoon.

embrace(v,n) – hug

87. appear- can be seen, opposite of ‘disappear’

A rainbow appeared in the sky.

A strange man appeared on my doorstep.

 

93. expect- I expect my kids to be polite.

The mother expects her son to clean up his toys.

She is expecting. special meaning? She is pregnant.

 

100. remain- stay

They remained at home all day.

She will remain in EF4 next term.
