·      Review paragraph format and structure

·      Test #2 – paragraph culture shock

·      Continue noun clauses

·      Phrasal verbs, do a few every day

·      Pronunciation of the Day- daily pronunciation work- minimal pairs and tongue twisters

Thursday/Friday

·      Midterm recommendations for Quarter 4

Registration for Quarter 4 begins the day we get back from Spring Break, Tuesday, April 2nd.

I will half of the class Thursday and half Friday.

Back to school on Tuesday, April 2nd for the three final weeks.

Our final day will be Friday, April 19th.

Paragraph (at least 150 words)

Write in pen.

Doublespace.

Write between the margins (red lines).

Write in one block of writiing.

 

Begin with a topic sentence.

Several supporting sentences

Concluding sentence

 

Every sentence has to be a real sentence: simple, compound or complex.

Write a paragraph about one of the following topics.

Submit by 10:25.

 

What things do you miss about your home country?

OR

What things about Canadian culture did you find challenging when you moved here?

 

 

 

 

 

Example from yesterday:

I watched my kid play soccer yesterday.

Why ‘play’ and not ‘played’? I don’t know. I will think about.

ACTION

Let’s take some time and practice writing complex sentences with noun clauses.

Choose an A word and put it with a B word.

A-list verbs: ‘think’ ‘know’ ‘understand’ ‘believe’ ‘realize’ ‘feel’ ‘remember’ ‘say’ ‘suggest’ ‘advise’

B-list pronouns: ‘that’ ‘why’ ‘how’ ‘what’

 

Your examples:

I don’t know why he does that.

She thinks that he will come back.

I believe that she will succeed.

I believe that I am a happy person.

She suggested that doing some regular exericses can prevent illness.

My daughter said that she passed the exam.

My son doesn’t believe what his sister told him.

They believe that they can do anything together.

My brother suggests that I should be strong.

I suddenly realized what the word ‘compassionate’ means.
