“Ramadan”

1.    fast(v) – blood test “Fast for 12 hours before getting a blood test.”

You have to fast before getting surgery.

2.    prophet (noun, person)- a person who gets messages from God

3.    faith(noun) – belief, religion, trust in a person or institution

I have faith in you. I know that you will keep your promise.

4.    self-sacrifice- giving up something that you like to help somebody else

The soldiers sacrificed their lives for their country.

Parents sacrifice money and time for their children.

5.    lunar(adjective) – about the moon

China is on a lunar calendar.

We follow the lunar phases of the moon.

When the moon is getting smaller, it is waining.

When the moon is getting larger, it is waxing.

6.    solar(adj)- about the sun

The solar system is the collection of the sun and all of the planets and moons.

We can generate clean energy from solar panels.

solarium- solar- sun   arium-room   A glass room for growing plants.

 

7.    entire(adj)- while, all of something  I ate the entire bag of chips.

8.    provide(v)- to give

The food bank provides dry foods and canned food for people who are struggling.

My wife always donated a few things to the food bank when she goes to Superstore.

9.    energy – power, strength(n)

10.                       mosque- ‘mosk’- religious building for Muslims

church- religious building for Christians

temple- religious building for Sikhs

shrine- religious building for Buddhists and Shinto (Japan)

You can burn incense in a temple.

 

11.                       Quran – holy book for Muslim people

Bible- holy book for Christian people
