EF34 Third class- parts of speech, Sleep

Parts of Speech

1.    Nouns- person , place, thing, idea(abstract, not physical)

person- scientist, barber, princess, composer, adult, mother, boy, girl, doctor, husband

place- Vancouver, China, Iran, home

proper nouns , capitalized- Vancouver, China, Iran, Joanne, South Hill Education, Starbucks, Friday, July, Tuesday, QE Park, I, Ahmed, Toyota, Sony, iPhone

thing- pen, computer, glasses, car, desk, food, paper, finger, dog, coyote

idea(abstract thought, not physical)- happiness, imagination, mathematics, plans, virtual reality, cybermoney, Bitcoin, virtual meeting (Zoom)

 

compound nouns- two words together

breakfast – break-stop, fast-no eating

She has to fast for one day because she is having an operation.

2.    verbs -action words

VERB TENSES- Can be big trouble!

 

3.    adjective- descriptive word

-size- huge, tiny, medium, large, short, gigantic, miniscule

-age- young, ancient, two-year-old, senior, brand new

She has a two-year-old daughter. like an adjective

shape- round, triangular, rectangular, six-sided, eight-sided

A stop sign is eight-sided.

A stop sign is octagonal.

**NOTE**

In English, adjectives come before nouns.

He tossed and turned all night. He could not get to sleep.

He had insomnia. (noun)

 

That’s a no-no.

 

She does yoga because she wants to be more flexible. She is getting better at stretching.
