-gerunds sound more natural to me

gerund- noun with -ing   hiking (noun) gerund

I like hiking.


I like to do outdoor things like hiking, cycling and camping.

When we get together we do things like sing, dance, and eat.

When we get together we do things like singing, dancing, and eating.


Different usage of ‘like’

I like to eat. You like to take a nap. She likes to dance.



-Jackie is four, so she enjoys each day spent with her dad. 

Great.

-A four year old Four-year-old Jackie enjoys spending each day with her dad.

-When Jackie is four, she enjoys spending with her dad each day.

When Since/Because Jackie is four, she enjoys spending each day with her dad. *This sentence suggests that little kids enjoy spending time with their parents.

Four-year-old Jackie enjoys each day with her dad.


I have noticed that your sentence writing has really been improving over the last few weeks. I feel like you have stepped up to another level.

These good English sentences can be used in school, work, life, etc.

Descriptive Writing- describing the world – five senses

five senses: the means by which our bodies communicate with the outside world

1. smell - nose

2. sight - eyes

3. taste - tongue

4. touch - skin

5. hearing - ears


descriptive vocabulary – adjectives

need a rich vocabulary- challenging


-smell – (adj) stinky, awful, fresh, sweet, floral, salty, spicy, good, bad, musty

-sight- (adj) colour- dark, light, grass green, sky blue, robin’s egg blue, turquoise, silver hair, pale,  rainbow

shape- round, square, oval, triangular, rectangular, 

-touch (adj) smooth, soft, hard, rough, cold, warm, silky “Her hair is silky.” oily, dry

-hearing (adj) – loud, quiet, soft, golden-voiced, sharp, melodious, musical,


-taste –(adj) sour, spicy, salty, sweet, bitter, yummy, delicious, yucky, bland, crispy, oily, strange, juicy


We’ll pick this up tomorrow and start writing some descriptive writing.



Tomorrow I will ask you to write a short descriptive paragraph (100-150 words). I will show you a picture. You will describe that picture.

** Special day: Tomorrow for the test, you can use a dictionary to get vocabulary. You can choose some nice descriptive words.
