EF5/6 Paragraph structure

Paragraph -  a collection of sentences (around 5-8 sentences) all on one topic

First sentence in your paragraph is a topic sentence
Topic sentence- gives the topic, gives the controlling idea (your focus, your take on  it, your opinion, what you want to say)

Topic: Vancouver
Controlling idea: narrows down the topic to something specific

Vancouver is nice. XXX
I like Vancouver. XXX

Topic sentence:
Vancouver has a wide selection of great, inexpensive restaurants.

Must-see special places for tourists 
Capilano Park -Capilano Suspension Bridge
Gastown -Steam Clock
Stanley Park - Seawall

Topic sentence:
For any visitor to Vancouver, there are three must-see tourist spots that you should visit.

A topic sentence is the advertisement for the paragraph. It makes the reader want to keep reading.

A grabber gets the reader's attention.
