BAD THESIS STATEMENTS
"Ice cream is good."
"I like ice cream."

1. Replace vague words and idea with specific ones
"My recent trip to Florida was really bad."
"My recent trip to Florida was disappointing because the weather upset my sight-seeing plans."

2. State the natural divisions of the subject

"The costumes, the dialogue, and the plot of the movie Southern Smoke all seemed phony."

3. Avoid a heavy-handed thesis statement that announces...
"In this essay, I will write about ice cream and how great it is."
"This essay will talk about ...."
