EF4/5 Subjects and predicates

Sentences- write and speak

grammar- 

subject- main noun in the sentences
noun- thing, person, animal, place, idea

thing- (concrete noun) table, pen, computer
person- mom, dad, Mary, Prime Minister Trudeau 
animal- cat, dog, giraffe, buffalo, deer, lion
place- school, home, downtown, Canada, Tokyo
idea- (abstract noun) education, travelling, happiness, Thursday


main subject / complete subject

The cat is on the bed. one word- main subject
The cat is on the bed. complete subject

Our school is on Fraser Street. - main subject
Our school is on Fraser Street. - complete subject

The little brown and white puppy was running in the park. -one word- main subject

The little brown and white puppy was running in the park. -complete subject

PROBLEM:
The puppy with the white paws is cute. CORRECT
The puppy with the white paws are cute.

#1 error that students make
subject verb agreement

Ex. "I are a mother." XXX
"I am a mother."

Ex3
eyebrows eyelashes
thunder (sound) and lightning (electrical bolt)

weather "It is raining."
"It is windy."
"It is cloudy."
"It is foggy." 
"It is sunny."
"It is snowy."

"We are very happy."
"we all"
"We all are very happy." makes it sound we are all together, united group
"We all get together for a party every month."
"All of us get together for a party every month."

lamb- baby sheep
puppy- baby dog

bunny- baby rabbit

foal- baby horse
calf- baby cow
fry / minnow- baby fish

stress- worry, tight muscles, can't focus, anxious, anxiety
"I am worried about my math test."
"I am an anxious person."
"She gets depressed in the winter."

stressful (adj) "She has a stressful job."




predicate- very closely related to verb

"She has a stressful job."

main predicate / complete predicate

"She has a stressful job." main predicate=the verb

"She has a stressful job." complete predicate= everything except the complete subject

"The little puppy plays with the toy." main s & p

"The little puppy plays with the toy." complete s&p
