Three ways to make compound sentences:

3.    My car broke down; therefore, I need to get it fixed.   SV; TRANS, SV.

My car broke down; however, I can’t get it fixed.   SV; TRANS, SV.

My car broke down; as a result, I need to get it fixed.  

My car broke down; consequently, I need to get it fixed.

My car broke down; thus, I need to get it fixed.

My car broke down; for this reason, I need to get it fixed.

There are 12 main verb tenses in English:

Many of these we rarely use. There is little good reason to spend time learning verb tenses that are not used often.
