PROCESS

1.Look at the KERNEL- first sentence

2.Find new information in the other sentences.

3.Decide what kind of sentence we want to write.

4.Write it.

EXAMPLE

SHEC is a school. KERNEL

Find new information in the other sentences.

It is an adult school.

It is on Fraser Street.

It offers classes.

The classes are for high school.

SHEC is a school. KERNEL

on Fraser Street

Pieces of information.

Decide what kind of sentence you think would be best.

SIMPLE COMPOUND COMPLEX

Let’s try COMPLEX

SHEC is a school

adult

on Fraser Street

offers classes.

for high school.

SHEC is an adult high school on Fraser Street that offers classes.

SHEC is a school on Fraser Street that offers adult high school classes.

SHEC, which is on Fraser Street, offers high school classes to/for adults.

SHEC offers high school classes for adults which is on Fraser Street. XXX

SHEC, which offers high school classes to adults, is on Fraser Street.

On Fraser Street, that/the/a school called SHEC offers high school classes to adults.

On Fraser Street, there is a school called SHEC which/that offers high school classes to adults.

If you can write these, you can write anything.

Step1 Find the kernel

Step2 Find new information in the other sentences

Step 3 Choose what kind of sentence you want to write. This will be a gut decision.

Step4 Write the sentence. Try a few variaptions

IDIOM gut decision – you make a decision based on what feels right in your stomach, your feeling, your conscience
