Use ‘will’ in the main clause, not the subordainate clause

NEW STYLE She will go to the park after finishing work. gerund-noun SIMPLE?

He drinks coffee after he wakes up. COMPLEX

He drinks coffee after waking up. SIMPLE?

You go shopping after finishing class.

I was upset after talking to my sister.

 

I will warm up my body before I go to play soccer, and I will relax my muscles after I go home. COMPOUND COMPLEX- high for EF4

Nobody expects this style of sentence in EF4.

EXTENDING THE IDEAS WE HAVE LEARNED!

First step it to master the basics. You have to have your foundation solid. Is your foundation solid?

go + verb = leave where you are

I am going to get some coffee.

I am going to go get some coffee.

She will go hiking. gerund

She will go to buy some groceries.  infinitive

COMPLEX SENT- question/interrogative

Are you upset because your sister forgot your birthday?

Could I borrow your pen after you finish with it?

Did you practice before you did the driving test?

 

Wh question-

Where did you park the car because I can’t see it?

When did we learn this because I don’t/can’t remember learning it?

When did you say that because I don’t remember you telling me that?

What did you do after you had this problem with immigration?

What should I do if I get into a car accident?

I cooked made lunch for you. What is your plan for after lunch? 2 SIMPLES

He made a sandwich.

She cooked some Ghorme Sabzi.

I prepared some sandwiches. – culinary, store, more careful

culinary(adj)- related to cooking

Maris went to culinary school. She learned how to be a cook/chef. She is a great chef.

cooker(n) – a machine that cooks, a rice cooker

The lawyer prepared her client’s documents for court.

He prepared for the Zoom meeting with his business partners.

gastronomy(n)- fancy food,

He went to a gastropub. Romer’s is a gastropub.

She is a foodie. She loves checking out fancy restaurants.

I was a foodie when I was in Iran.

 

 

*since- 2 meanings

1.because- give a reason

Mei won’t go to the park since/because it is over 35 degrees.

2.time- from a time in the past

Mavis has lived in Vancouver since 2021. SIMPLE

Mavis has lived in Vancouver since SV 2021. COMPLEX- ADV CL

Mavis has lived in Vancouver since she moved here in 2021. COMPLEX- ADV CL

Sarah has played piano/soccer since she was a child/nine years old.

Sarah has played piano/soccer since childhood. SIMPLE

He is upset since he failed his test. REASON- because

He has been upset since he failed his test. TIME

VERB TENSE- has been – present perfect

She has been happier since she moved to Canada. TIME

SUGGESTION happier than in her old country

Since I started at South Hill, I have been excited. TIME

 

Lot of choices and lots of options when you create sentences.

PRESENT PERFECT VERB TENSE has felt

PRESENT PERFECT PROGRESSIVE has been feeling- sounds temporary, momentary, sounds recent

EX: Shira has worked at ABC Company since 2022. SIMPLE

VERB has worked present perfect verb tense – a span of time

 

 

We have known each other for 35 years.

We have known each other since 1990.

We have known each other since we were kids.

 

We met 35 years ago. simple past

ago – simple past

 

I have started at SHEC since 2023. XXX

FIX

I have studied at SHEC since 2023.

I started at SHEC in 2023.

I have been studying at SHEC since 2023. sounds temporary

 

Since I started studying EF4, I have been more practice at writing.
