Adjective clauses

who - people

that – things, animals

which- special things, unique things

 

A mechanic is a person who fixes cars.

A mechanic fixes cars that are not working.

 

A barber is a person who cuts men’s hair.

A barber trimmed my beard which was too long.

 

cut- cut a lot of hair off

trim- cut off a tiny amount, neaten it up

shave- hair cut down to the skin

wax- tear the hair out

perm- permanent- get your hair curled permanently (3-4 months)

 

poufy hair

get your hair straightened

 

coloured hair / dyed hair

highlights

 

let your hair go natural

let it go grey

 

 

 

while- progressive/continuous verbs “ing”

past progressive – Mei was sleeping while her son was watching a movie.

present progressive- Mei is sleeping while her son is watching a movie.

 

 

Add an adjective clause to each sentence.

1.    My puppy has a new collar.

My puppy that is eating some food has a new collar.

that has long hair   that has cute ears   that is a few months old

My puppy has a new collar that is red/white/blue.

that was expensive   that is made of gold/leather/plastic/nylon

 

2.    The photographer took out his camera.

The photographer who is a professional took out his camera.

HIGHER LEVEL   The photographer who took out his camera is a professional.

The photographer took out his camera that was expensive.

that was waterproof   that was digital   that was old-fashioned

 

4.    Dolly who likes sports likes snowboarding.

Dolly who is a teenager likes snowboarding.

Dolly who is your sister’s friend likes snowboarding.

Dolly who lives in Burnaby likes snowboarding.

Dolly likes snowboarding who practices hard. XXX

Dolly who practices hard likes snowboarding.

Dolly likes snowboarding who practices hard.

Dolly likes snowboarding which makes her body athletic.

Dolly likes snowboarding which is a winter sport.

5.    The little boy who was crying/tired/angry/scared/nervous did not want to go to school.
