EF34 13 class- verb tenses - present perfect

Present perfect – ‘perfect’ doesn’t mean perfect, just a word

verb tense- started in the past, keeps going until now

present perfect – auxilairy verb + participle

Mehrat has studied English since last November.

Ling has worked at VCC for 18 years.

‘worked’ is not past tense, it is participle

 

DIFFERENT MEANING

Ling worked at VCC for 18 years. simple past

 

Jie worked in China for five years as a doctor. She has worked in Canada for 15 years as a doctor.

 

MOST COMMON USAGE

I have lived in Canada for three years. I have been married for 27 years.

My son has played soccer since he was five years old.

Your daughter has played piano since she was four.

 

She started learning English two years ago. simple past

She has started learning English from two years ago.

She has learned English from two years ago.

She has been learning English from two years ago for two years. present perfect progressive
