teacher – not a title Teacher Al, Teacher Haley- sounds cute, not English

Pronoun  usage is changing. You will have to decide how open you are to calling people by their chosen pronouns.


-punc – periods, commas, question marks, exclamation marks !


FREE ADVICE#2: Use exclamation points sparingly. Do not use them very often. People tend to overuse exclamation points.

#1 error that students make is agr.

-vt verb tense – past present future

I go to school when I am a kid. vt

I went to school when I was a kid.


-vf verb form

I was buy  a new pair of shoes. vf

I bought a new pair of shoes.

I am go to school.

I go to school.

I going to work.

I am going to work.


-wf word form – building vocabulary

health (noun), healthy (adjective), healthily (adverb)

I have good health. I am healthy. I eat healthily.


Building vocabulary is very important of you at a 3/4 level. You should be adding new words to your vocabulary every day.


-wo word order – translation

I have a white sweater.

Spanish – I have a sweater white.

I have a bottle water.

-also for Arabic


Difficult to unlearn.

In Canada, there are people from many countries.

Chinese – There are many countries people.


One of my students said that she has to have two brains: English brain and Mandarin brain.

Spanish brain, Arabic brain, Farsi brain

You have to keep them separate.

Very challenging!!


euphemism – Teachers don’t like to say ‘difficult’ – negative emotion, struggle, difficult


challenging – opportunity, positive word


This is very challenging.


euphemism- when we don’t want to say the real word, we say a gentler word


euphemism – a more polite, gentler word

die- passed away, passed on


bathroom, restroom, powderroom,washroom, peeroom


Teacher says “Interesting.” No. Wrong.

Boss says “You have an exciting new opportunity.” You’re fired.

Wife says “We should take separate vacations this year.”


unemployed, without a job -euphemism “between jobs”

problems – issues, challenges

global warming – euphemism ‘climate change’



things – stuff (casual) 



Tomorrow, we will begin on compound sentences. These compound sentences will be more challenging than simple sentences.
