Why use past progressive?

SIMPLE PAST- one event, finished

PAST PROGRESSIVE- event in the past, interrupted by
something else
Mei was watching a movie last night when the
electricity went out.

PAST PROGRESSIVE

Let’s write some sentences on our own using past
progressive verb tenses:

VOCAB trigger(v,n) causes negative emotion or memory to occur
Seeing that dog triggers my fear.

A man yelling triggers her anxiety.
People with PTSD are easily triggered by loud noises, for
example.
The dog was triggered by the tall man.
It really bothers him when people put their feet on their
seat.
