I will talk to each person to discuss what you should register for for Quarter 4. This will take most of the class.

REMINDER:

Midterm average 65%+ = register for next level course Wednesday

Midterm average 50-64% = register for next level course Friday

Midterm average below 50% = not ready to register for next level

*Students with a low passing average (50-55%) should considering not registering for a higher-level class. It will be very challenging to be successful in the next level.

We have lots of quizzes and tests left to do. You can raise or lower your mark in the final almost four weeks of the course.

29. government- the organization that runs a country-

-theocracy- run by religious people

-autocracy- run by one person 

IDIOM The wife wears the pants. She is the boss.

53. head- the leader   Bill Gates is the head of Microsoft.

VERBS

38. seem- appear, look like

He seems to be happy today. It seems like it will rain later.

87. appear- see   The sun appeared in the sky. A ghost appeared in the empty room.

appeal- challenge a law or a court ruling

 

That is excellent that you are familiar with so many of these words. It seems like you have a good vocabulary. Keep building it.

 

ADJECTIVES

13.different- not the same, unrelated   The little kid is wearing different colour socks.   Shira wants to get a different job.

24. social- likes to talk with and be around people, makes relationships with others   Humans are social animals. Some people are anti-social.

25.only – limited number, limited amount- just   She has only/just 15 minutes to eat lunch.  We have only/just three weeks left in this course.

DIFFERENT MEANING  We just finished lunch.

37. economic- having to do with money, financial

economy(n)

My country is facing economic challenges. For example, there is high inflation and unemployment.

inflation- prices going up

unemployment- people with no job

40.whole- all, entire   Every day, he would eat a whole chicken in the basement student room. You can buy a can of whole olives or sliced olives.

50. recent- last, previous, immediately before

Her recent job interview was a success. She got the job!

51.certain- sure   She is certain that she left her phone at the library.

He is a little uncertain about verb tenses in English.

70.significant- important   Moving to Canada was a significant event in her life.

82.environmental- Canada has strong environmental laws.

You have to pay a small environmental fee when you buy some products like electronics.

85.democratic- government is chosen by the citizens by a free and fair election
