Academic writing
1.Understand the writing prompt.
Read the writing prompt. Read every word. Read it six times.
2.Respond to the writing prompt in a meaningful way
a.Generate a thesis statement based on
the writing prompt- topic and controlling idea
b. Decide what mode of
writing you will use: narrative, compare/contrast, literary
c. Generate evidence to
support your thesis
d. Organize the evidence/support
e. Write a coherent,
cohesive rough draft based on the conventions of multi-paragraph writing in
English.
f. Proofread and edit
g. Good copy.
Probably no time to write a good copy. Work will be assessed as “first-draft
response”.
