EF2/3 Family Relationships

common-law marriage - two years living together

respect for close family friends, not related by blood - Uncle Bob

Great Great Grandfather - your grandfather's grandfather

Great grandson

in-law related by marriage

husband or wife - partner

blended family - partners with kids from other relationships join together into a new family

half brother - same mother, different father or vice versa

adopted - join your family by law, not related by blood, take your name, same as your birth children

foster - take care of them, not your family, when they are adults they are independent

godson - 

niece - sister's daughter, brother's daughter, sibling's daughter

parents

cousin - uncle's or aunt's kids

married by a priest, religious person, married by "a justice of the peace"

ancestors - relatives from far in the past, way way back, ancient relatives

descendants -  relatives from far in the future, way way in the future

orphan - a child with no parents

maternal - mother's side of the famaily
paternal - father's side of the family

e.g. your maternal grandmother - your mother's mother
your paternal grandmother - your father's mother
