Phones, electronic devices out away.

Write in pen, not pencil.

Double-space.

Write your full name, class, and date in top right corner.

Write a sentence with a simple future verb tense for each.

EXAMPLES:

*Easier to use ‘on’ all the time.

**Prepositions are tricky in English. There is no easy way to learn prepositions. Daily usage is the only way to learn. People who use English a lot daily learn prepositions. People who have closed mouths do not learn them.

Preposition mistakes are small mistakes.

e.g.   My birthday is in June 23rd. XXX very small mistake

My birthday is on June 23rd.

          We went the museum yesterday. XXX very small mistake

We went to the museum yesterday.

I will see the anthropological museum.

I will go to the anthropological museum.

 

When my wife came to Canada, she spoke and used English every day.  She did not use her mother language. She made friends who were English speakers. Her new friends did not speak her mother language.

Now she is department head and instructor at VCC.

If she can do it, you can do it.

Even after 30 years, she still finds prepositions in English to be a little tricky. My wife, “English is stupid.”

My wife was born in south China. She moved to Spain when she was 5.

She learned English quickly by immersing/surrounding herself in English in Vancouver. She plays volleyball.

I have been teaching at this school since 1993.

The students who learn English well are the students who use English every day in their real lives.

You can accomplish a lot in a year. You must work day-by-day.

 

 

PHRASAL VERBS- VERB + PREPOSITIONS

-look at – see, point your eyes toward something, watch

We looked at Xmas lights in the neighbourhood.

-look for- search for, try to find

I looked for a new sweater at Metrotown.

-look after- care for, raise

She looks after her children very well.

Get into small groups of 4-5 people.

Discuss the Warm-Up Questions.

Do the Vocabulary Preview.

Then practice the dialogues.

applicant(person)- the person who wants to get a job or service
