1. Words seem to have magical powers to control how we think and act.
2. Angry or insulting words generate tensions that lead to physical conflicts between individuals and nations.
3. Other words enable people to show sympathy, overcome loneliness, and express love.
4. Some vulgar or profane words create blushes brought on by acute embarrassment.
5. Others heal divisions among families and join people together in marriage as well as unite people in common causes that transcend individual differences.
6. While legal words separate people through divorce or create judgments for execution, they also enact legislation for social progress and enables people of colour to organize.
7. It may appear that words themselves have power, but this is an illusion as power resides with people who understand how words work.
8. It is knowledgeable and articulate people who possess the power, not the words themselves.
