     English First name and Chinese middle name:
     Middle name keep cultural identity in tact
     Chloe’s middle name in Phuong = Phoenix  — would the name phoenix work as a first name?
     Long means Dragon —may not work as a first name?
     English names were chosen to fit in (more approachable…more westernized)
     Middle names have a connection to their home culture/origins/family—identity
     Choosing an english name is proof that you are assimilating to the “dominant” culture
My Name is Margaret
     Name is identity
     amalgamation of everything that came before
     Miss Glory — she could have been like Margaret
     Her name used to be Hallelujah
     She has come to accept and adopt her identity —“Glory”
     Internalized “slave” mentality
     When Margaret smashes dishes, Miss Glory says “we/our” not “your”
     Miss Glory has accepted a new identity with accepting her new name
     Margaret rejects a new identity by rejecting the name “mary”
     Margaret is a connection to  her family/history/origin—identity
     Retaining one’s sense of self

She reclaims her identity —both American and Korean
