Discuss your ideas. Come up 3-4 ideas about why marijuana should be legal, or 3-4 ideas about why marijuana should not be legal.
Discussion. Make notes so you remember the points that you discussed.
Divide the class into two groups.
Room 1 – Pro legal -Marijuana should be legal.
Reasons:
1. occasional use is not harmful, not everyday
2. use for medicine, medicinal use, health problems
PUT THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON LAST
Room 2 – Anti legal -Marijuana should not be legal.
1. not good to cook with marijuana- children can eat it by mistake
2. easy to overuse marijuana, use too much
3. illegal selling and buying
4. some adults cannot control themselves, marijuana doesn’t help
5. become depressed when they stop using marijuana
6. pay a lot of money
7. bad smell bothers people
8. starting drug – gateway drug to other drugs

1. people can choose for themselves, use or not use
2. restriction make people more eager to use it
3. preventing or helping with some diseases: cancer, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness
4. much less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco, noone dies from marijuana
5. bad longterm effects of heavy usage – physical and mental
6. big source of tax dollars – better for the government to have that $ rather than criminals
7. lower motivation
8. respiratory illness (lungs)
9. bad smell – smells like skunk- sickly sweet smell
10. helps with chronic pain
