noun clause – group of words with S V, a noun

verbs that have to do with the mind, brain, cognition, thinking: know, understand, believe, remember, forget, get (casual), think, imagine, recognize (thinking), suppose, claim, say, promise


Sarah remembers how her little sister would sing when she was going to sleep. noun clause adverb clause


I forgot that I had to pick up my mother-in-law at the airport last week. noun clause She is still there waiting.


get – understand (casual) I get that you are tired, but we still have to do this work. compound complex, noun clause

I recognize that learning English online is not as effective as learning in the classroom; however, we can still learn a lot together using this new medium. COMPOUND COMPLEX


suppose

I suppose that you can borrow my bicycle; just be careful when you lock it up.


claim

The man claimed to ICBC that I scratched his car when I was parking.


say

Michelle said that she would be late for work today.


promise

I promise that I will come to your class every day.

I promise that I will not eat all of your chocolate when you are out. noun clause adverb clause

I promised my grandmother that I would/will take care of her 27 cats while she was in jail.


reason (v) – not used much, ‘think, ‘ deduce’, high-level thinking, science, philosophy

The scientist reasoned that the COVID-19 vaccine was still 18 months away.
