Replacement quiz/test
** Optional replacement quiz/test **
A few people have asked me about rewriting quizzes/tests. Maybe
they had a bad quiz or missed a quiz/test.
In my classes, I offer an optional replacement quiz/test for
anyone who would like to do one.
Next week (Thursday. October 31st), you will have an
opportunity to replace one of the quizzes/tests that you wrote.
Again, this is optional. You don’t have to do it if you
don’t want to.
So far we have done some 3,4,5 quizzes:
Quiz#1 X/6
Quiz#2 X/6
Quiz#3 X/6
Quiz#4 X/6
You have your marks for those.
You may have one quiz that you were not satisfied with.
One is one. Not two, not three. 1=1
You choose which one you want to replace and let me know by
email.
You will do the replacement quiz during regular class time,
as usual. We will do it at the end class.
The replacement quiz will be a new quiz. The replacement
quiz will be a mix of all sentence styles.
e.g. If you want to replace your Quiz #2, the compound
sentence quiz, the replacement quiz will not just be on compound sentence; it
will be on all of the sentence styles. The replacement quiz will be six
sentences, as usual- mix of simple, compound, complex. e.g. 1 simple, 2
compound, 3 complex OR 2 simple, 2 compound,
2 complex.
Your old mark will be replaced with the new mark. It will
not be the higher of the two marks.
Exactly the same situation with the replacement test. It will
be a paragraph on a new topic.
Think carefully about if you would like to replace one of your
quiz/test marks.
ADVICE:
If you have pretty good marks, just leave them. Don’t bother
with the replacement quiz/test.
On the other hand, if you have a really low mark somewhere,
it would be worth doing the replacement quiz/test.
Example replacement quiz
You can decide on Thursday if you want to do a replacement
quiz, test or both.
If you don’t want to, you can leave early. Enjoy your day!

My favourite hobby
is hiking in the mountains around Vancouver. I go with my friends. We carpool
together. We leave early in the morning. We carpool to the bottom of the
mountain. Then we check our equipment. We have food and water in our backpacks.
We wear hiking boots. We find the trail. We walk up the mountain together. We
talk and laugh together. After several hours, we reach the top. We enjoy the
view and take some pictures. We have some food and water. Then we hike back
down. We always have a good time hiking.
Once you have learned it, you will never forget how. Cycling is an excellent alternate means of
transportation for several reasons.
Cycling is much more inexpensive than driving a car. Cycling provides an excellent opportunity to
get in top physical shape. Also, cycling
is easier on the environment than driving your car.
Riding your bicycle will help you save on the expenses
cost of owning a car. As car insurance
costs rise, everyone is looking for a way to cut down on transportation
expenses. One alternative is to park
your car and ride your bicycle. The
money you save on gasoline and insurance will pay for an excellent bicycle
which will last for years with little extra repair costs. Whereas a trip to the garage for your car
usually costs $500 or $600, a trip to the bicycle repair shop often costs only
$50 or $60.
You can ride your bicycle to improve your
health. Cycling to work three times a
week will strengthen your heart and lungs.
Also, you may find your waistline shrinking as you burn off that excess
fat. Being in good physical shape helps
you feel energetic and helps you to think clearly. Finally, a bit of exercise first thing in the
morning puts you in a positive frame of mind for the entire day.
Ride your bicycle to save the environment
Mother Nature. Everybody these days is worried about pollution. Nobody likes to see dirty grey skies and to
breathe dirty air. Leaving your car
parked a few times each week will reduce the emissions from your car engine. Over time, less used oil will be released
into the environment, and the mountains of rusting cars and worn out tires will
shrink.
In conclusion, cycling is a great alternative
option to driving your car. Riding is a
lot cheaper than driving. You will get healthier
and stronger. You will also be doing
your part to save the environment the Earth. Plus, it is a fun way to see the city and
meet new people. So get out and ride
your bicycle.
**Good point**
When you go to college or
university, they will have a writing style for you to follow.
Paragraphs can be different lengths.
One be short; another one can be longer. They should be balanced.
Multi-paragraph writing- EF5.
