I can speak Mandarin fluently, but I can only speak English a little bit.

My English is a work-in-progress. – developing, getting better, all the time

I speak survival English. -low level English just for basic communication

I learned survival Japan when I lived in Japan.

 

My speaking in English is getting better. – not as natural sounding
