Final “Self-Assessment Reflection”

Ministry of Education in BC

-all students in BC required to do the reflections

-Canadian education- teaching students to be independent learners

-set goals for ourselves

- not rely on teacher for everything

-self-motivated - internal motivation to learn

-self-directed – set your own goals, figure out what steps you have to take to achieve those goals

-         student must be an active learner, not passive

“Self-Assessment Reflection”

-tool to promote self-motivation and self-direction

In my opinion, goal setting is critical to learning skills.

EF23- PLOs, Prescribed Learning Outcomes

-         basis of our goalsetting

e.g. ORAL “clearly express ideas and feeling”

WRITING “past and present tenses, including simple and progressive”

“spelling”

“capitilization”

Final marks

My advice: If your mark is less than 60%, you should not go to the next level.

The pass mark in BC is 50%.

If you go to the next level with mostly Developing skills, with a few Proficient skills, you will be lost in the higher level class.

If your mark is a solid 60% or higher, you will likely be ok in a higher level.

The other thing to improve is a balance between written skills and spoken skills.

‘Self-Assessment Reflection” Week 9

Final one-on-one meeting

-         recommendation for next term

-         final comments
