EF12 Class 25- verb tenses- simple past

So far, we have studied these verb tenses:

1.    Simple present -usually always “Clara drinks tea every morning.”

2.    Present progressive/continuous – right now “The dog is barking at a squirrel.”

3.    Simple past- happened once in the past “Kokob played basketball last night.”

NEW VERB TENSE

4.    simple future-

 

pool – billiards, snooker

ballroom dance class

 

 

New verb tense- Simple future- will happen once in the future

“will” + to go   will go- two words in the verb

I will go to school.

You will go to school.

He will go to school.

We will go to school.

Sarah will go to school.

 

I go to school.

You go to school.

He goes to school.

 

simple future- the verb does not change

 

action verbs: go, buy, eat, drive, drink, study, look, walk, sleep, write, swim, fix, read, run, watch, listen, etc.

Michelle will buy a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs tomorrow.

a bag of potatoes/onions/apples/oranges

detergent  - strong soap for cleaning clothes or dishes

dish soap- OK

 

detergent – not for your face or hands

will + VERB

She will to go to the party. XXX

She will go to the party.

 

VERB TENSE- future progressive/continuous- not common

She will be going to the party. NOT FOR EF12

 

 

 

SIMPLE PRESENT          She drinks eight glasses of water every day.

SIMPLE PAST                 She only drank six glasses of water yesterday.

SIMPLE FUTURE           She will drink eight glasses of water tomorrow.

SIMPLE PROGRESSIVE She is drinking some water now.

 

These four verb tenses are enough for most everyday English.

These are the basics. These are the most important verb tenses in my opinion.

 

 

won’t = will not    contraction ‘ apostrophe wont

They will go to the beach tomorrow.

They will not go to the beach tomorrow.

They won’t go to the beach tomorrow.
