Imperative sentences – simple sentence

very useful , very commonly used

Imperative sentence – give a command , give an order, tell somebody to do something

 

Come in.

Sit down.

Have a cookie.

Come here.

Go to bed.

Clean your room.

Be careful.

Watch out!

Shut up.

Turn on the light. Turn on the light, please.

The Magic Word - Please.

Open the window. Please, open the window.

 

I’m fine, thank you. – not imperative

 

What is an example of an imperative sentence (command sentence) that you would use in your everyday life?

Be on time. Don’t be late.

Place the forks on the table, please.

“Recipe” Project

1.   Think of a nice recipe from your country or culture. It could a main dish, a dessert, a drink.

2.   Write a short description of the dish. Where does it come from? How old is it? What does it taste like? It is traditional? Who likes to eat it? When do you eat it?

3.   Create a list of the ingredients and the amounts.

4.   Write out the steps in the process of how to make the dish. Use imperative sentences.

5.   (OPTIONAL) Offer a few alternatives or substitutions. e.g. vegetarian option

VERBS FOR COOKING- measure, cut, mix, stir, add, chop, clean, blend, boil, salt, season, fry, bake, roast, pour, mince, beat, drain, preheat, cool, slice, dice

 

HOMEWORK – Create your recipe, following the “Sample Recipe”. Email to me by tomorrow night.

I will collect all of the recipes and share them with the whole class. We can learn some new recipes.
