- last week optional- from tomorrow, expected
1. Incorporate quoted material - You write your own sentence. The quoted material becomes part of your sentence.
2. Quote only a few words. 1,2,3 words.
Choose a few key words that you think are important, and then incorporate those into your sentence.
When you're reading your book, make notes. Making notes is absolutely critical when you are a student.
Describe Old Major.
"twelve years old"
"majestic-looking"
"wise and benevolent"
"rather stout"
"rather stout"
Don't have to use them all. Just pick a couple that you like.
Old Major was one of the oldest animals on the farm. He was "majestic-looking" despite his old age. All of the other animals respected him and was a role model to them because he was "wise". Also, he had a "benevolent" personality
benevolent- helping others
malevolent - hurting others , maleficent
mal French sick or hurt
maltreatment - treat someone badly
malnutrition - not enough, bad nutrition
malfunction
THE BIG,KEY, IMPORTANT, CRITICAL QUESTION: Why am I using this word? Is it because it is a word I would normally use? Or I am using because it is in the book?
EXAMPLES OF REPLACING YOUR VOCAB WITH QUOTED MATERIAL FROM TEXT
Old Major was a sophic, enlightened, knowledgeable, perspicacious “wise and benevolent” (1) pig whom the other animals respected.
Benjamin was a “cynical”(2) goat who was “devoted” loyal to Boxer but who “never laughed” serious, humourless around the other animals.
ALL THREE TOO MUCH, PICK ONE
Let us practice a few sentences with some quoted material about Boxer.
