EF3/4 Types of paragraphs

Paragraphs - 6-8 sentences that are about one topic

Topic sentence - topic, controlling idea
Body sentences - example, explanation, details
Concluding sentence

4 different kinds of paragraphs:

1. narrative paragraphs
narrative - narrate (v), narrator
A narrative paragraph tells a story.
- short story (6-8 sentences)
- organized by TIME, start at the beginning and go to the end
- Topic sentence
- 4-5 things that happened
- Concluding
"What did you do on Sunday?"

2. descriptive paragraphs
- describe something
- use descriptive words, adjectives - beautiful, sunny, small, sweet, green
- five senses: touch, smell, hearing, taste, sight
We contact the outside world through our five senses.
- organize by SPACE -top to bottom, side to side


3. expository/process paragraphs
- teach how to so something, explain how something works
- step by step, first step to the final step

4. persuasive paragraphs
- persuade, convince somebody
- make them agree
