Simple Sentence Exercises

 

Write a simple sentence using the vocabulary in each exercise. Try a variety of simple sentence types.

Remember: SV  SSV  SVV  SSSV  SVVV  SSVV  Imperative  Interrogative

Write your sentences on your own paper.

 

1.    cat   sleep

SV The cat is sleeping in his house.  on the chair   under the table

verb tense- present progressive/continuous ‘ing’- right now, currently

The cat sleeps under the table.

verb tense- simple present- habitual action

The cat sleeping under the table. XXX vf- verb form

 

2.    laugh   joke

The teacher starts the class by laughing and joking. SV gerund

gerund –‘ing’ noun, not a verb

She likes hiking. gerund- noun, not a verb

3.    children   play

The children is plays are playing with a dog. SV

4.    sing   song

My friend and I sang a beautiful song at the party. SSV

 

5.    do   homework

Do you have homework? Interrogative- question

She played a beautiful melody on violin.

music- uncountable noun

She is playing a nice song with piano.

song- countable noun  two songs, five songs
