perfect – doesn’t mean ‘Perfect!’, just a word, from Latin

PRESENT PERFECT – started in the past, continues until now

 

VERY COMMON USAGE of present perfect

 

Molly has lived in Vancouver since 1998.

has lived – present perfect- two verbs- auxiliary plus participle

Molly and Dave has have lived in Vancouver since 1998.

 

Example:

I have lived in Vancouver since 2019.

I have lived in Vancouver from 2019. sounds ok, not as good

 

I was living in Ethiopia in 2012. past progressive

 

I have lived in Vancouver since 2022.

I have lived in Vancouver since last year.

I have lived in Vancouver for two years.

I have lived in Vancouver for more than 20 years.

I have lived in Vancouver for about 30 years.

I have lived in Vancouver for maybe 30 years.

I have lived in Vancouver since I was 25 years old.
