English borrowed words from many languages, so we sometime have strange spellings.

"The sandwich was eaten by her." passive voice- subject is not doing the verb
passive- does nothing
passive person- does nothing, doesn't make a decision, waits for somebody else to organize things
active person- motivated, busy, doing things
Some countries prefer passive students in class.
"I sharpened the pencil." active voice
"The pencil was sharpened by me." passive voice
